OUR HISTORY
Over the years of Trinity East’s ministry, we have had many pastors beginning with Rev. Sidney W. Johnson and currently, Rev. Marilyn White.
In 1908, Trinity East began as a mission -- an offspring of Trinity United Methodist Church, the oldest Black Methodist Church in Houston. We were initially given the title of Little Trinity!
The original building, built in 1909 by some of its members was destroyed by a hurricane in September, 1915, and later rebuilt in 1925, which is now the Fellowship Hall. After continuous membership growth, Trinity East began a phase two construction project in 1950 in which the present day Sanctuary was constructed. Later in 1975, With the addition of the educational wing and the gymnasium in 1975 phase three was completed.
In 1991, Trinity East experienced a tornado which destroyed the roof of the sanctuary. We were blessed to hold worship services at Texas Southern University and in the Church’s gymnasium until the repairs were completed in 1993.
Through it all, Trinity East has and continues to offer hope with spiritual growth opportunities through weekly adult Sunday School Classes and Bible Studies, the weekly King’s Kids Children’s Church and the annual Vacation Bible School. The Men’s and Women’s Ministries actively seek out mission projects that help support individuals and families who are facing life challenges as well as support the growing needs of Trinity East’s Food Pantry through the Mission and Outreach Ministries. Almost eight years ago, Trinity East became a site for the Gathering Place, a monthly ministry activity for those diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and other forms of mild dementia. The Trinity East Ministries are collaborators and partners with many like-minded community organizations including Third Ward Community Cloth Cooperative Organizations, the Emancipation Economic Development Council, Trinity East Village CDC, Faith in Action, Operation Love, Yellowstone Academy, SEARCH Homeless Services, 1000 Hills Ministry, and Civic Heart
